Ack.
I need to update but really need some time away from a computer. I was in Toronto yesterday for some meetings and saw Morgan, Mia and Kelly! Good times. Pics to come. In the meantime, I reccomend Porter Airlines if you need to fly between the Toronto-Ottawa-MTL triangle. They make it glam to travel again!

Back in MTL today and crazy crazy crazy getting ready for the Game Developer's Conference (GDC) in San Francisco next week. Wheee! And a blizzard on the way!

If you think that cities are meant for people, you would not fly into Toronto's Waterfront. You land a few hundred meters from several parks, a school, a community centre. In previous summers, the harbour has been a haven for boaters and tourists.
Now we get to breathe airplane fumes and hear noise.
Imagine how nice Old Montreal would be with 20 or 30 or 40 flights a day and you can understand the unhappiness of Torontonians.

Whoa, holy mother of lurking anonymous poster! If you want to email me directly, try shannon.mcphee@autodesk.com

Montreal is an island, and I think it's an identifying trait that reminds me of how cosmopolitan my city is that I look north and almost always see a plane landing. People bring energy and ideas to my city, and I'm happy to see them arriving to la belle ville. I work in Old Montreal. It's semi-industrial, with tech companies and condos sprinkled in for good measure. I don't think an airport would kill us. In fact, we'd probably be happy for the additional revitalization of our city.

In the meantime, those waterfront Toronto condos and houses and boats and tourism is all paid for by: an economy! Which mean businesses and business travel. And I am as aware of the ecological problems facing our earth as well, but think that maybe the flights getting closer to people's destinations means that less gas will be guzzled whipping people way out to an airport in Missasauga. A high-speed train between upper and lower Canada would be great, but in the meantime, Porter is a good solution.
